GUWAHATI, Nov 21 - President Ram Nath Kovind along with first lady Savita Kovind today visited the historic Kamakhya temple to pay obeisance to the Mother Goddess. The President was also accompanied by Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi.
“On arrival around 9.30 am, the President was welcomed by the temple management committee and DC Kamrup Metro Dr M Angamuthu in a traditional manner with gamosa and cheleng chador. Keeping in view the ill health of the First Lady, water from Saubhaya Kunda was brought to the temple for rituals. The process of darshan was completed successfully, with minimum inconvenience to the other devotees waiting in the queue,” secretary of the temple management committee Bhupesh Sarma told The Assam Tribune.
The President also performed Kumari Puja in the temple.
From the temple’s side, an eri chador and a wooden replica of the Kamakhya shrine were given as mementoes to the President, while Savita Kovind was presented with traditional Assamese mulberry silk (paat) mekhela chador.
