Sangai fest begins
 IMPHAL,Nov 21 – The 10-day Manipur Sangai festival got off to a colourful start at the well-decorated Hafta Kangjeibung ground here today.

The festival has been organised to showcase the uniqueness of the shy and gentle brow-antlered deer popularly known as Sangai which is found only in Manipur at the floating Keibul Lamjao National Park in Loktak Lake and to promote Manipur as a world class tourism destination.

Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam was the chief guest at the inaugural function. Education Minister M Okendro, Parliamentary Secretary M Prithviraj, London Olympic bronze medalist MC Mary Kom, Chief Secretary DS Poonia besides other officials attended the function.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister said the 2012 edition of the festival celebrates the ethnic diversity of Manipur.

Participation of various Indian States, foreign traders and cultural troupes in the festival this year will make it grander in scale and style, he said. Around five lakh people are likely to visit the festival during November 21-30.

The main attraction of the festival this time include international polo tournament, a series of cultural shows, fashion shows, etc.
