Drive against illegal arms in Nagaon

 NAGAON, Nov 20 - In its continuous drive against the availability of illegal arms in the district, an operation was launched on November 19 by a special team of the Nagaon police at Dhaniabheti under the Batadrava Police Station.

The team recovered one 9 mm pistol, one magazine and one live cartridge from the possession of one Mozibur Rahman.

The police team was led by DSP Jhon Das.

Panchayat elections: Altogether 86 nomination papers were filed for ZPC members, 487 for AP members and 559 for GP president in the Nagaon subdivision in view of the ensuing Panchayat polls in the State.

After the scrutiny, nomination papers for 79 ZPC members, 476 AP members and 525 GP presidents were found valid.

Some of the applicants also withdrew their nomination papers.

Meanwhile, training programmes for polling personnel in the district have started from November 19 and will continue till November 22 at the District Library and Dowson HS and MP School.

Deputy Commissioner Bisawjit Pegu and ADC Dulal Debnath personally supervised the training programmes, stated a press release.
