AIZAWL, Nov 20 - All India Congress Committee(AICC) president Rahul Gandhi has criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his alleged failure in checking corruption in the country.
Addressing an election rally in poll-bound Mizoram today, he said, “ Despite his assurance, Modi Ji has failed completely in checking corruption. Rafale deal is a clear example through which the BJP has looted public money.”
Launching a blitzkrieg attack on the BJP and the RSS, the senior Congress leader alleged they ( BJP and RSS) are trying to crush the culture and identities of the people of India.
“We want to defend the culture, language and religion of your state. It’s our belief that the best way to protect the unity of India is to protect its diverse cultures,” he said. Rahul added: “I am absolutely certain that the RSS is aiming to destroy Mizo culture, language, religion and your values.”
He also appealed to the voters to thwart the evil design of the BJP.
“They are trying to infiltrate their people in every institution, be it Planning Commission, judicial, and education. Merit does not matter. If you are an RSS member, you can become a Governor, Vice-Chancellor and every top posts in the country,” he alleged.
“The RSS and the BJP are now aiming to form the next government by forging alliance with the Mizo National Front,” he said.
Election to the 40-member Mizoram Assembly will be held on 28 November. Mizoram is the only State in the north-eastern region where the Congress is in power. The Congress has been alleging that the MNF and BJP would go for a post-poll alliance in the event of a hung Assembly. However, both the parties denied the charge.
“It is sad that an organisation like the MNF is helping the BJP and the RSS that would destroy the culture, language, heritage and history of Mizoram... Only Congress people are fighting the divisive ideas of the BJP,” he added.
Highlighting the 10-year rule of Congress government headed by Lal Thanhawla, Gandhi said the economy of the State is now on a growth path and per capita income of the people has doubled during this period. “We will make Mizoram as the gateway hub of Eastern India and create 11,000 new jobs in the next year,” he added. “In 1987, my father drove around Mizoram streets. I came with him that time. I want to do the same after elections. I want to come to Mizoram, drive around and meet the people here,” he said.
