GUWAHATI, Nov 20 - The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has cautioned the voters against exercising their franchise in favour of those who had secured their tickets by paying money.
Addressing a press conference today, BJP spokesperson Bijon Kumar Mahajan urged the public to participate in the election in a fair manner in the forthcoming panchayat polls, so that a transparent and corruption-free panchayati raj system can be created in the State.
Taking potshots at the Congress, Mahajan alleged that many Congress candidates have been given tickets in lieu of money.
“These allegations have come from within the Congress party. The State Congress president Ripun Bora has formed a committee to probe such allegations, which speaks for itself,” Mahajan asserted.
“And, if such candidates are voted to power, then the decentralization of power would turn into decentralization of corruption. Such candidates, if elected, would definitely indulge in corruption to get their money back,” he pointed out.
