Significance of Child Rights Day elaborated

 GUWAHATI, Nov 20 - The Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (ASCPCR) celebrated the Universal Child Rights Day with the children of Dakhin Gaon ME School today. A team of the Assam SCPCR visited the school and spent several hours with the students.

The programme began with a welcome song by the teachers of the school. Various competitions such as art, dance, solo singing and drama were organized among the school children along with a special skit on child rights protection. Later, sweets and lunch packs were distributed among the children.

Welcoming everyone, Dr Nani Gopal Goswami, member of the Commission, spoke on the significance of the Universal Child Rights Day. He also explained about the Commission and its mandates and functions to protect and promote child rights.

He explained to the children the importance of Rule of Knowledge over the Rule of Law, enlightening the gathering with a feeling of moral responsibility towards protection of rights of children.

Dr Rashmi Sharma, State Coordinator, Bachpan Bachao Andolan, administered a pledge to the children and the teachers on the occasion of Universal Child Rights Day to protect the rights of those children who are less fortunate than others.

Commission member Rupa Hazarika focused on the ban on Corporal Punishment and on the rightful use of 1098 emergency services for children. She stressed the responsibilities of every individual towards the community, society and the nation so that everyone enjoys their rights to the fullest.
