GUWAHATI, Nov 20 – The Gauhati High Court today extended the interim bail period granted to DHD(J) ‘commander-in-chief’ Niranjan Hojai and outfit’s chairperson Jewel Garlosa, both accused in the NIA police station 1/2009 and 2/2009.
The division bench comprising Chief Justice AK Goel and Justice N Koteswar Singh, after hearing advocates Niloy Dutta and Bijon Mahajan, the counsels for the accused, extended the interim bail period by three months which will expire on February 20, 2013.
Earlier, the State Government had filed the affidavit before the Court stating that a Memorandum of Settlement has been signed among the Centre, State and the outfit on October 8 this year and that the implementation of the MOS has also started.
The State Government in its affidavit further stated that it has no objection if the interim bail period of the duo is extended subject to the full disclosure and surrender of arms and disbanding the outfit as stipulated in the MOS.
The NIA cases relate to diversion of public funds towards militant activities.
