GOLAKGANJ, Nov 20 – The ashes of Dr Bhupen Hazarika were brought to the district on November 10. The district administration, following government orders arranged public display of the ashes. The district administration immersed Bhupenda’s ashes in the Brahmaputra and Gadadhar river of Dhubri and Gauripur on November 11.
Meanwhile, several organisations and followers of the great son of the soil, including Dhubri unit of AASU, Sahitya Sabha, Dhubri district Union of Working Journalists paid floral tributes to the ashes of Asom Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika.
In Gauripur also, a mourning procession was taken out from the PC Baruah field, Dhubri to Children’s Park, Gauripur to bring the ashes on November 11. Along with several admirers of Bhupenda, Tarun Das, OC, Gauripur, Prabir Barua, members of Gauripur’s royal family, Kashema Khatun, noted poet Mrinmoy Kumar Deb Adhikary, secretary, Dhubri district Union of Working Journalists, Alongir Sheikh, Sourav Chakraborty, social worker and a number of media persons and public took part in the procession.
Uttam Saha, social worker and businessman in Dhubri while paying rich tributes to Dr Bhupen Hazarika described him as the greatest artiste ever born in North East, who through his songs and compositions sang of humanity and worked for social harmony and betterment of human beings.
