GUWAHATI, Nov 20 – Green Valley Sports Club is through to the quarterfinal stage of 60th Bharat Ratna Lokapriya Bordoloi Trophy Tournament.
In a knock-out pre-quarterfinal match at Judges’ Field here this evening, Green Valley outshone GSA Super League and ATPA Shield champions ASEB Sports Club 4-3 in penalty shoot-out after a goalless regulation time.
It was a tough contest as both the teams were on their toes from the very beginning.
ASEB was the dominating side in major part of the match but their strikers were not in proper shape. Their strikers Chayaram Basumatay came close to scoring but finally missed out due to poor imagination. Green Valley on the other hand created some openings in the later part but due to lack of accuracy and penetration at the final stage, they failed to hit the target. Apurba Phukan and Sanjeeba Rongpi toiled a lot but that was not enough as ASEB defenders, led by Maneswar Mushahary, foiled all their moves with timely anticipation.
In the penalty shoot-out, Sanjeeba Rongpi, Samson Basumatary, Apurba Phukan and Satish Singh (goalkeeper) were the successful shooters in tie breaker while Mandala Ronennai, Maneswar Mushahary and Chayaram Basumatary could hit the target for ASEB.
For Green Valley, Kwabana failed to score while Nitu Narzary and Khirod Das of ASEB were the offenders. Dwijendra Mohan Sarma conducted the match and he was assisted by Orizul Zaman and Prabhat Kalita.
