DoNER Minister stresses developing major NE cities

 GUWAHATI, Nov 17 - DoNER Minister Dr Jitendra Singh, while emphasising the need for developing major cities in the North East as industrial hubs, said that the region has all the potential to emerge as the most developed unit in the country provided the right mechanism is adopted.

The Minister, who was addressing a FICCI FLO North East Chapter function here today, said that a new beginning has been made for the North East with the Narendra Modi government seriously pursuing the Look East Policy.

Dr Singh launched FICCI FLO North East Chapter’s SWAYAM, a consultancy and mentorship cell to provide support to new and existing woman entrepreneurs, as also aspiring student entrepreneurs, in establishing new businesses and enhancing existing ones.

He also assured that his department would extend all support to boost entrepreneurship in the region.

A FLO initiative, SWAYAM is aimed at facilitating finance, access to banking and government schemes and help identify franchise opportunities for potential woman entrepreneurs.

It needs mention that FLO has nationally partnered with the SBI, NSIC, SIDBI and VERBIND to support woman entrepreneurs.

Speaking on the occasion, FLO North East chairperson, Joyshree Das Verma said, “Mentorship and guidance are tools that have the potential to help woman entrepreneurs grow their businesses, and in some cases change their lives. The objective of SWAYAM is to link FLO women as mentors to woman entrepreneurs in 15 locations pan India. Panels of mentors have been created for the support and guidance of woman entrepreneurs across India.”

Dr Sriparna B Baruah, co-ordinator, SWAYAM, FLO North East, highlighted the current scenario of woman entrepreneurship in the North East and the way forward.
