KOKRAJHAR, Nov 17 – Kokrajhar police early today arrested Executive Member of BTC, in charge of Water Resource & Irrigation Department and Youth BPF president, Mono Kumar Brahma (Jaila) in connection with the recent violence in Kokrajhar and possessing illegal arms as per Kokrajhar Police Station case number 2542/12, U/S, 120(B)/121/121(A)/122/153(A) IPC, R/W Sec. 25(1-A) Arms Act, informed Hiranya Kr Barman, Additional SP, Kokrajhar.
Barman informed that after getting secret information a team of Kokrajhar police this morning around 5 am, carried out a search operation in the Tengapara residence of BTC EM Mono Kumar Brahma in Kokrajhar town and recovered two AK-47 rifles, two magazines and sixty rounds live ammunition from his residence.
SP Barman also said the seized rifles would be sent to the forensic laboratory for test to find out whether those were used in the recent violence or not.
In the afternoon the Brahma was produced in the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court, Kokrajhar and the CJM Jitu Moni Barman sent the accused EM for two days’ police remand rejecting the prayer petition for 14 days’ police remand.
Meanwhile, curfew continued even today and security measures have been tightened in entire district.
It is also reported that police are also keeping strict watch on a few BPF leaders in Kokrajhar.
On the other hand, the family of Mono Brahma alleged that police falsely implicated him and the men in uniform had conspired and themselves brought the rifles to their house to frame him.
BPF leader and Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary also expressed dissatisfaction with the action of police and alleged that police were unnecessarily targeting BPF leaders and trying to create unrest in BTC.
He further alleged that police totally failed in providing safety and security to the people of Kokrajhar. At the same time Daimary said that there was a deep-rooted conspiracy against BTC govt and a conspiracy had been hatched against EM Mono Kumar Brahma by police, which was very unfortunate.
It may be mentioned here there that the situation in Kokrajhar is tense and normal life has been disrupted due to the present situation.
Meanwhile, Despite curfew, fresh incidents of violence erupted on Friday night in Kokrajhar district leaving four persons dead and four injured.
According to police sources last night around 10.30 pm unidentified armed miscreants indiscriminately fired at Jiaguri village under Kokrajhar Police Station. As a result four persons of a family including a woman and a child died on the spot. The dead have been identified as Rup Bhanu Bibi (55), Nuruddin Haque (30), Jiaul Haque (12) and Amjad Ali (35).
In the firing two other members of the family Abbus Ali and Isrot Ali sustained bullet injuries and were admitted in Dhubri Civil Hospital. Security forces immediately rushed to the spot but the miscreants fled from the spot under the cover of darkness.
In another incident last evening around 5.45 pm unidentified armed miscreants opened fire at Nalbari village under Kokrajhar PS. As a result one Akela Bibi sustained bullet injury. Later she was referred to GMCH for treatment.
On the other hand, this evening miscreants shot at a security guard of a highway construction company near Serfanguri under Serfanguri Police Station in Kokrajhar district. The injured was referred to RNB Civil Hospital in Kokrajhar for treatment.
It may be mentioned here that following the fresh incidents of violence tension prevails in and around Kokrajhar and in the last one week more than 15 people were killed in BTAD.
