Dispur gherao by KMSS, allies today
STAFF REPORTER
GUWAHATI, Nov 15 - As part of its ongoing protest rallies across the State under the ‘Sankalpa Shikha Jatra’, the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) and its 70 ally organisations will stage a ‘Dispur gherao’ programme tomorrow, demanding scrapping of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

KMSS advisor Akhil Gogoi said the activists of all the organisations started their march to Guwahati from Sadiya, Diphu, Jonai and Dhubri on November 11 and would assemble in the State capital for the ‘Dispur gherao’ programme.

As part of the statewide agitation by the KMSS, activists of the organisations will be staging mass demonstration in all the districts from November 17. They are also scheduled to stage a sit-in demonstration at the Veterinary Science College playground at Khanapara here from December 1 until the Bill is scrapped.

Meanwhile, Section 144 has been imposed in East, West and Central Guwahati areas since yesterday in view of the mass demonstration and the prohibition will remain in force until further orders. Police sources said the administration would take strong steps against anyone trying to break the law. “We will keep a strict vigil in Guwahati,” a police official said.
