GUWAHATI, Nov 14 - To pay a rich tribute to Dr Bhupen Hazarika in conformity with his eighth death anniversary, acclaimed feature film Chameli Memsaheb will be screened at the Guwahati Press Club at 5 pm on November 16.

Directed by Inder Sen, the 1979 movie (Bengali) has music by Dr Hazarika and the cast includes George Baker, Rakhee Gulzar, Anil Chatterjee, Gita Dey, Abha Dhulia, Tarun Kumar and Chinmoy Roy, among others. Bhupenda, Hemant Kumar, Asha Bhosle, Usha Mangeshkar, Aarti Mukherji and others had lent their voices in different songs.

It was a remake of the Assamese movie Chameli Memsaab, which is based on a short story by author-journalist Nirod Choudhury.

Released in 1975, the critically acclaimed movie was directed by well-known performer Abdul Majid, where George Baker and Binita Borgohain had played the lead roles.

The movie brought the national award for the best music direction (by Bhupenda) for the first time to Assam’s film world.
