Children’s Day celebrated

 SHILLONG, `Nov 14 - Along with the rest of the country, Children’s Day was celebrated here today to mark the birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

 During a programme organised at Raj Bhavan, Governor V Shanmuganathan asked a gathering of 200 children and teachers from 40 different schools of the city to work hard and face the challenges of life with courage. The Governor also emphasised that the young minds should carefully select their destinations in life and endeavour to be productive and responsible citizens of the country. The children presented cultural items during the event.

Earlier in the day, a series of competitions were conducted, starting with the Jawaharlal Nehru Commemoration Run, followed by various programmes including painting and drawing competitions.
