Rehabilitation of surrendered cadres by AR

 HAFLONG, Nov 14 – In an endeavour to bring the misguided youth of Dima Hasao district to the mainstream, a vocational training programme was formulated and conducted under the aegis of Headquarter 22 Sector Assam Rifles by the Haflong-based Assam Rifles Battalion. Under this programme, a 35 volunteer surrendered cadres of various outfits like DHD (CF), DHD (J), KLA/KLO and HPC (D) underwent vocation; training and attained proficiency in various fields like electrician, welder, wireman, motor vehicle mechanic and computers. The programme was inaugurated recently by Dr M Ariz Ahmed, Commissioner, Hills & Barak Valley and Cdr 2 Sector Assam Rifles in presence of DC, Dima Hasao, Barun Bhuiyan, SP Dim Hasao, M J Mahanta and senior officers of the Army and Assam Rifles. The training commenced in right earnest from July 16 last.

The training culminated on October 20 after which a job placement function was organised on November 12 in which many companies like NKC, JKIV Calcom Cements, IL & FS (Vashist) and Simplex Constructions participated with job opportunities for the cadres undergoing training. Out of 35 surrendered cadres who underwent the training, 23 got immediate placement with the companies mentioned above.

The vocational training programme and the subsequent placements have provided a ray of hope to the surrendered cadres for a better future away from weapon and violence.

The Assam Rifles has pledge to continue with this effort of rehabilitation and resettlement of the misguided youth of Dima Hasao under the able guidance of the newly formed Headquarter Inspector General of Assam Rifles (East), support of Dima Hasao Autonomous Council and the district administration.
