GUWAHATI, Nov 12 - In view of increasing incidents of crime against children and violation of child rights, the Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (ASCPCR) has developed an e-complaint box – Sishu Suraksha, a mobile application that will register complaints against child rights violation.
The app will be launched by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on the occasion of Children’s Day on November 14.
The State has registered 125 complaints of child rights violation this year till November 10. In 2018, 146 such cases were recorded. In 2016 72 cases of child rights violation were reported to the commission and in 2017, 98 such complaints were lodged.
ASCPCR Chairperson Sunita Changkakati told the media here that the e-complaint box has been developed to reach out to maximum number of people taking the advantage of digital technology. “Apart from being convenient, the app will also protect the identity of the complainants. Other than complaint, the photographs can also be uploaded through this application that is available on both android and iOS,” she added.
“Our visits to the districts showed the message of protection of child rights is yet to reach the masses. Many cases are not reported as people don’t know whom to approach or are afraid of divulging their identities. This app will be developed further so that the status of the cases can be updated regularly. We also plan to make it more interactive,” she said. Palash Lahon has developed the app.
