Assam women East Zone champs

 GUWAHATI, Nov 12 Assam became champions in the East Zone Senior Women Inter State One-day Cricket Championship winning all the matches. In the last match of the East Zone group league match, Assam trounced Bengal by five wickets at the Nehru Stadium here.

In the 50-over match, Bengal scored a commendable 178 for seven. But, after a dismal beginning, the unbeaten sixth wicket partnership between Reema Malhotra (74) and Lalita Sharma (63) took Assam to the winning target in 43.4 overs.

Earlier, Assam women won the East Zone title in the junior category also.

For Bengal, Priyana Roy top scored with 49 while Arpita Ghosh contributed 48. Mandira Mahapatra (36) and Paromita Roy (30) were the other notable contributors.

Reema Malhotra took four Bengal wickets while other three were run out.
