Jharkhand need 157 for victory
Sports reporter
GUWAHATI, Nov 11 – Host Jharkhand placed themselves in a comfortable position requiring 157 runs for an outright victory against Assam with eight second innings wickets in hand in a Group C Ranji Trophy match.

On the penultimate day of the four-day match at Jamshedpur today, restricting Assam to 207 in the second innings, after conceding a thin 5-run lead, Jharkhand were 56 for two at the end of day’s play.

RN Namat and Sourav Tiwary were at the crease with 37 and 8 respectively when stumps were drawn for the day.

Assam resumed their second innings at the overnight total of 27 for two and were all out for 207 in 74.5 overs. Except Amit Sinha (55), Tarjinder Singh (53 n.o) and Abu Nechim Ahmed (29) no other Assam batsman could counter Jharkhand’s bowling. Amit faced 69 balls and hit 11 boundaries while Tarjinder’s 53 came off 139 deliveries which included four hits to the rope. SJ Nadeem and SS Gupta were Jharkhand’s top bowlers with four and three wickets respectively.

Now everything will depend on Assam bowlers, particularly first innings hero Arlen Konwar and Abu Nechim Ahmed.
