ASEB take home ATPA Shield

 JORHAT, Nov 11 – Displaying superb team effort, Guwahati Sports Association’s Super Division Football League title holder ASEB Sports Club lifted the ATPA Shield.

In the summit clash of the championship at Jorhat Stadium here today, the Guwahati outfit edged past Seema Suraksha Bal (SSB), Siliguri by the barest of margin. The all important goal of the match was scored by Chayaram Basumatary in the 83rd minute. The ball deflected into the goal off a SSB defender when Chayaram unleashed a shot from top of the box.

It was a well contested encounter throughout the course as both the teams adopted positive attitude from the initial stage. But the frontliners of both the teams were not sharp enough at the final stage and squandered several scoring opportunities.

In the 26th minute, SSB striker H Govinda Singh came close to scoring but his shot hit the cross piece after beating ASEB custodian Daoga Brahma.

State Forest Minister Rockybul Hussain was present as chief guest in the closing function and handed over the ATPA Shield to the ASEB team. MLA Rana Goswami gave away the Aruneswar Sarma runners-up trophy to the SSB team.

Chayaram Basumatary received both the Tolen Saikia memorial best player and Bodheswar Borgohain memorial highest scorer trophies and cash awards. Moran Town Club was selected for the Puneswar Kachari memorial fair play trophy.

Hussain donated Rs 1 lakh to Jorhat District Sports Association.
