Poor condition of Barak Valley roads irk minister
Staff Correspondent
SILCHAR, Nov 10 - Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the newly constructed 100-bed Mother and Childcare Wing annexure at the Karimganj Civil Hospital on Friday.

According to the Karimganj District Information Office, the building has been constructed by spending Rs 22 crore under the National Health Mission.

Interestingly, while addressing a gathering on the occasion, Dr Sarma who is also the PWD Minister expressed his gross displeasure on the pathetic condition of the roads, saying: “Barak Valley is literally wallowing in the cesspool of corruption. Despite providing funds to the tune of Rs 40 crore, the condition of most of the roads have not improved at all because of rampant corruption, which needs to be uprooted once and for all.

On the contrary, “the local people have often questioned the intention of the Government while an influential but unscrupulous section is eating into the funds sans work on the ground. This must be stopped,” the Minister maintained, hinting that on enquiry, some PWD officials might be suspended for their gross negligence at work.

On the brighter side, the Health Minister informed that very soon free dialysis facilities would be available for patients at the civil hospital with concerned experts for logistical assistance.
