GUWAHATI, Nov 10 – Fiery opening spells by speedsters Abu Nechim Ahmed and Krishna Das reduced Goa to 10 for two in their first innings against Assam.On the opening day of the four-day Plate Division Ranji Trophy match at Nehru Stadium here today, Assam, opting to bat first were all out for 195 after 82 overs of batting.
At stumps, Sher Bahadur Yadav and Abhisek Raut were batting with five and zero respectively.
On a tricky wicket, Assam’s top order batsmen found it difficult to cope with the Goanese attack and lost four wickets at the team’s total of 63. But a 59-run partnership for the fifth wicket between opener Dhiraj Jadhav and skipper Gokul Sharma gave some respectability.
Barring Gokul, no Assam batsman could provide the required support to Dhiraj Jadhav who stood tall with a compact 73. He was the seventh batsman to be out and after his departure in the 69th over, the remaining three wickets lasted for 11.2 overs only. However, Abu with some lusty hits contributed 20 runs off 30 balls with four boundaries.
Dhiraj Jadhav batted for 288 minutes and faced 199 deliveries. His patient innings was studded with five boundaries and a six. Tarjinder Singh (20 off 57 balls) and Dhiraj Goswami (16 off 82 balls) were the other Assam batsmen who could get to double figures.
For the visiting team, Amit Yadav was the most successful bowler with three victims while Sher Bahadur Yadav took two wickets.
