UDAIPUR (SOUTH TRIPURA), Nov 10 – Setting the tune for the next Assembly elections in Tripura, Youth Congress leader Rahul Gandhi today alleged that the Left Front government was not working for the common people and it should be ousted from the power in 2013 polls.
In the manifesto, the CPM had promised of uplifting socio-economic condition of the poor but now it has forgotten the poll promises, he said while addressing a rally at KBI Ground in South Tripura district.
“The government which has been in power for the past 19 years must go in the 2013 Assembly elections and the Congress would provide a government which will work for the betterment of the weaker section of the society,” he said.
Gandhi said that it was the Congress which has always given priority to the betterment of the poor people while formulating any scheme. “The objective of national flagship programmes like MGNREGA and Forest Dwellers’ Right Act is to uplift the socio-economic condition of poor and tribal people,” he said.
Gandhi also slammed the CPM-led government for misusing the Centrally-sponsored schemes by way of diverting money to party fund. “The Centre has been sending funds for the welfare of the common people but it is very unfortunate that the fund has not reached the targeted group,” he said.
Gandhi exhorted party leaders and workers to reach out to the common men to understand their problems. “AICC will render all possible help to PCC to oust the Left Front from Tripura to usher in a new dawn here,” he said.
The Youth Congress leader who arrived here this morning, also attended another rally at Kailashahar where he flayed the Left Front government for taking the State backward.
Congress Working Committee (CWC) member Luizinho Faleiro, two AICC secretaries – Major Ved Prakash and Jayakumar remained present in the rallies.
