Suggestion on Jajabor’s funeral site
Staff Reporter
GUWAHATI, Nov 10 – Public activist Prof Deven Dutta yesterday called upon the people and the State Govt to consider naming the funeral site of music legend Dr Bhupen Hazarika as ‘Sur Bhumi’ or ‘Sur Tirtha.’

“This is my humble submission before the people of Assam and the State Government to consider if Sur Bhumi or Sur Tirtha could be considered as probable names for the maestro’s memorial site. It is also my humble submission that irrespective of the name given to the funeral site, it should be ensured that his unforgettable numbers are played day and night, in the manner Rabindra Sangeet is played at Santiniketan and Bolpur in West Bengal,” Prof Dutta said in a statement.

Prof Dutta also criticized Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh for failing to turn up in the State to mourn Dr Hazarika’s death, saying that as a self-proclaimed resident and a four-time Rajya Sabha representative from the State, Dr Singh ought to have been present at Dr Hazarika’s funeral held on Wednesday.
