Staff Reporter
GUWAHATI, Nov 9 - Students of B Borooah College today staged hunger strike in the college premises demanding to make public the report of enquiry into the allegations of sexual harassment against a teacher of the Department of Botany.

While the students also demanded of the authorities to restore the academic environment in the college, Principal of B Borooah College Satyendranath Barman said that though there is an issue between a section of students and the college authorities, it has not adversely affected the college environment.

The Principal further said that the teacher, against whom the allegations have been levelled, has been asked to go on leave.

“The State Education Department has taken note of the issue and after a meeting with the college authorities today, it has asked the teacher to go on leave,” he said.

The students of the B Borooah unit of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) staged demonstration from 9 am to 4 pm today.

“The Directorate of Higher Education had constituted a committee to enquire into the matter in August 2015, but even after three months, the reports have not been made public, let alone the question of punishing the culprit,” said Rahul Rabha, president of the students’ body unit.

The students also alleged that another teacher, of the Department of Assamese of the college, who has been suspended without a valid reason, must be brought back.
