Cong stir in N Lakhimpur against economic slowdown
NORTH LAKHIMPUR, Nov 8 - The Opposition Congress party today took to the streets in North Lakhimpur protesting against economic slowdown in the country along with price rise of essential commodities, unemployment problem and overall failure of the ruling BJP-led governments at the Centre and the State.

The protest march started from the District Congress office – the Rajiv Bhawan and culminated in front of the North Lakhimpur Head Post Office, near the Deputy Commissioner’s office where they sat on a dharna. The protest march was led by Dr Joy Prakash Das, president of District Congress Committee along with youth leaders Ganga Jyoti Tayegam and others. The protesting Congress workers shouted slogans against the economic hardships faced by the people due to the flawed policies of the BJP-led governments.

The Congress has been on a ten-day nationwide protest since November 5 against the economic mismanagement by the ruling BJP-led government at the Centre. Today’s protests by the Congress also mark the third anniversary of demonetisation announced by the Prime Minister in 2016. The Congress has been consistently blaming demonetisation as the prime reason for the economic slowdown that has followed in the country since then. Today’s protest march and the sit-on protest was attended by Lakhimpur District Mahila Congress, the NSUI, the Seva Dal and other sister organisations of the Congress.
