Tokay geckos seized, 2 held
 NAGAON, Nov 8 - Following a secret information, the Nagaon police arrested two persons with 12 tokay geckos from near the Uriagaon bypass last night. They were trying to smuggle the lizards to Guwahati.

Police sources informed that the market price of these species of lizards may be several lakhs of rupees.

Two persons, identified as Afazuddin and Billal Hussain, who are residents of Amani under the Samaguri Police Station, have been arrested by the police in connection with the smuggling of tokay geckos.

Panchayat poll preparations: The Nagaon district administration started its preparation to conduct the ensuing panchayat polls in a smooth manner.

The district administration on Wednesday called a meeting of different political parties and informed them about the rules to be followed by the candidates. Later, Nagaon DC Biswajit Pegu addressed local mediapersons.

He informed that there are 23 ZPC members, 139 AP members, 10 AP presidents and vice presidents, 143 GP presidents and vice presidents as well as 1,430 GP member seats in the Nagaon subdivision.

A total of 9,45,870 electorate in this subdivision will cast their votes. Out of the total voters, 4,85,604 are males and 4,60,266 females.

On the other hand, there are 6 ZP members, 29 AP members, 3 AP presidents and vice presidents, 290 GP member seats in the Kaliabor subdivision of Nagaon district.

The DC further informed that there are 879 sensitive and 135 highly sensitive polling stations in Nagaon subdivision. In the Kaliabor subdivision, there are 79 sensitive and 91 highly sensitive polling stations.
