Sensation over twin suicides in city
GUWAHATI, Nov 8 - Sensation prevailed after an Assamese actress Jharna Choudhury Bishaya (45) committed suicide last night in her house located at Uzan Bazar’s railway colony under extremely mysterious circumstances.

This was followed by another suicide committed by the actress’ ‘acquaintance’ Vishal Hazarika (24).

Hazarika, also a resident of the same locality, reportedly hanged himself from the ceiling of the viewpoint of the Sati Radhika Shanti Udyan located on the Brahmaputra riverfront in the wee hours today.

“After her family members spotted the body, Jharna was taken to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital where she was declared brought dead,” Police said. Jharna’s husband, who is an employee of the Indian Railways, was at his work place then.

Investigators claimed that, prima facie, both the acts of suicide appeared to be linked to each other but they are yet to establish the circumstances that led to the incidents.

“Locals claim that both of them were ‘close acquaintances’ but we are yet to comprehend that,” police said.

Police said the chronology of events that led to the incidents has certainly drawn suspicion, but it would not be right to draw any conclusion as the investigators are yet to lay hands on anything that could corroborate the claim in any way.

Investigators further said that although the family members of both the deceased have lodged an FIR with the police and two cases of unnatural death (18/2018 and 19/18) have been registered, they are, however, tightlipped about the relationship.

“The families were even reluctant to share the phone numbers of the deceased, which could have made things clear. However, nobody has alleged foul play,” police said.
