BJP accuses Congress of spreading falsehood
GUWAHATI, Nov 8 - The ruling BJP today accused the Congress party of spreading falsehood regarding the State government so as to create confusion among the minds of people.

Addressing the media here today, BJP State unit secretary Dr Amiya Kumar Bhuyan said that in the past two and half years, the government headed by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has been able to undertake a lot of development activities and transform the image of Assam.

He said that the government’s ‘zero tolerance’ approach towards corruption has yielded results and led to decline in mismanagement and cronyism. Dr Bhuyan said the people of Assam have shown confidence in the performance of the Sonowal government.

The BJP leader claimed that Congress and some other forces have become apprehensive due to the rising popularity of the Chief Minister and so they are trying to fan doubts and spread misinformation among the people of Assam.

Dr Bhuyan said the present government has been able to improve the fiscal position of the State, which has allowed it to take steps for undertaking social welfare projects.

“All this has become possible due to the steps taken by the government to reduce corruption and curb nepotism,” Dr Bhuyan said.

He added that the government’s decision to formulate a population policy will not only be beneficial to curb high population growth, but would also allow selection of beneficiaries for various schemes in a transparent manner.

The government has been able to plug leakages in excise revenue as well as in removing encroachments from government land, Dr Bhuyan said, adding the government has now taken a decision to provide land patta to thousands of indigenous landless people.
