STAFF CORRESPONDENT
SILCHAR, Nov 8: Chaos prevailed in Silchar after family members and kins of Sujit Das, a resident of Tarani Road who died at NEIGRIHMS in Shillong following a recent mob assault, staged a road blockade at Rangirkhari after his body reached here on Thursday.

According to the family members of the deceased, identified as Sujit Das (30), despite a complaint, no steps were taken to trace the culprits behind the incident.

Additional SP (Headquarters) Rakesh Reddy rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control. Following his assurance to nab the culprits within a day, the hour-long bloackade was lifted around 11.30 pm on Thursday.

"We received a complaint from the family of the deceased and steps are being taken accordingly. We shall also look into the CCTV footage from the locality where the incident took place," Reddy told the irked crowd.

Police said Sujit alias Bhramarlal Das, a resident of Borjalenga area of the district, was a tenant at Tarani Road. He faced serious assault from the public after he had collided with a lady and her husband on Monday night while riding his scooty.

"We received a complaint and steps are being taken accordingly," Reddy told The Assam Tribune on Friday.
