|Concluding ceremony of 150th anniversary from Nov 9-11|
GOALPARA, Nov 7 - As a tribute to its glorious past, the PR Govt HS & MP School, Goalpara is making hectic preparations to mark the closing ceremony of the 150th anniversary of the school with a three-day event that will be celebrated from November 9-11 at the school campus.

Talking to this correspondent, the Principal of the PR Govt HS & MP School Sozim Uddin Ahmed said that the school will be hoisting a series of special events to mark the occasion, mostly related to school alumuni.
The opening ceremony on November 9 will include a colourful march past by school students followed by the flag hoisting ceremony by Deputy Commissioner Varnali Deka. Floral tributes will be laid to honour all the deceased who have contributed to the premier institution since it its inception in the year 1868. This will be followed by the inauguration of the flower garden in front of the school building and then the opening of the school’s main gate by Labyna Choudhury. Inauguration of the book fair and exhibition by the Inspector of Schools Nripen Das will follow. A cultural programme will also be flagged off by the SP Amitav Singha thereafter.
In the later part of the day, there will be a felicitation programme for the alumuni and teachers who have crossed the age of 80 years and then a colourful souvenir marking the occasion will be released by the present Deputy Commissioner of Barpeta district, an alumnus Thaneswar Malakar. The day’s event will conclude with the cultural night fest at the campus which will be inaugurated by Dr Abhijit Rabha, another alumnus.
The second day will be marked by the inauguration of an e-library in memory of Promoda Kr Choudhury which will be donated by Partha Pratim Choudhury, also an alumnus which will then be followed by two sessions of alumuni meet which will be inaugurated by Kamal Kr Baishya and Brojenjit Singha respectively. The day’s proceedings will conclude with the cultural night to be inaugurated by icon Adil Hussain.
On the last day, i.e., on November 11, a seminar on ‘Challenges of education in government schools and responsibilities of the government’ will be chaired by Phanindra Zidung where a former Principal of Cotton College, Dr Sitanath Lahkar and a senior lecturer from Pandu College Dr Mrinal Kalita will participate as keynote speakers.
This will be followed by the open meeting whose concluding session will be attended by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal as the chief guest; former VC of Gauhati University, Dr Nirmal Kumar Choudhury, who is also an alumunus as the special guest and Phanibhusan Choudhury, Minister of Food & Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs etc., as the guest of honour along with a host of dignitaries. The event will draw to a close with a colourful cultural night which will be inaugurated by the Chairman, Goalpara Municipality Board, Ikhtiar Uddin Ahmed. Further, the Principal Sozim Uddin Ahmed informed that Dr Abhijit Rabha, an alumnus has been covering the entire event by using drone cameras which will later be made into a documentary of the school.
