GUWAHATI, Nov 7 - The final of the 65th Bharat Ratna Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi Trophy Football Tournament will be played at the Nehru Stadium here tomorrow.
Former champions Mohammedan Sporting Club of Kolkata will square off against another former champion team Oil India FC of Duliajan in the summit clash.
This year Guwahati Sports Association, the organisers of the premier football tournament, handed over the responsibility of hosting the preliminary stage of the tournament to Dibrugarh District Sports Association and Mukalmua Anchalik Krira Santha respectively. After the four-team group league matches, Mohammedan Sporting and TRAU qualified for the semifinals from Mukalmua while Oil India FC and BSF Jallandhar earned the semifinal berths from Dibrugarh.
In the semifinals played yesterday, Mohammedan Sporting defeated BSF Jallandhar by a margin of 6-5 goals in tie breaker after playing goalless draw in the regulation time.
In the well contested second semifinal Oil India FC got the better of Imphal outfit TRAU 3-2.
It will be for the second time that both the teams will face each other in final match of football tournament in Assam this year. Earlier, Oil India FC defeated Mohammedan Sporting in tie breaker at Chamata in the Naroram Barman Football Tournament. However, the Kolkata team will play their third final in Assam this year as they also played final in the Independence Day Cup Football Tournament in Nagaon last month.
Considering the previous performance Oil India seemed to be favourite in the final tomorrow. However, Mohammedan Sporting skipper Phillip Adjah is the man who can change the complexion of the match.
Yesterday the Nehru Stadium wore a deserted look when the semifinals were played. The match starts at 5 PM.
