GUWAHATI, Nov 7 - The foundation stone of the third PETCT unit of North East India was laid at Nucleomed here by Debabrata Saikia, Leader of Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly today.
Very recently, the AERB approved installation of a PETCT scan unit and this centre would be the third organisation having facility of PETCT after the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital and the North East Cancer Hospital and Research Institute, Jorabat.
The new generation GE-USA made ‘Discovery-600 PETCT’ will also be equipped with a 16-slice high-end CT scan besides the sophisticated PET. This superspecialty equipment is bringing revolution in cancer treatment as well as in detecting abnormalities in myocardium (heart muscle) and brain.
Kandarpa Saikia, a postgraduate from the Bhaba Atomic Research Centre and head of Nucleomed said that the project which was taken up in the month of May, 2018 with AERB, is expected to be completed by early 2019.
The ceremony was attended by former joint director of DHS Dr Ramen Hazarika; Additional Director of Social Welfare Monideepa Saikia Bhuyan; NE-Reliance Gio general manager Anup Saikia; Ganesh Tamuli, chairman of NECHRI; Dr Munindra Narayan Baruah, MD, NECHRI; Dr Cidananda Bhuyan, oncologist and Dr Shantanu Barua, director, Oncquest among others.
