Diwali celebrated in State
Staff Reporter
GUWAHATI, Nov 7 - Diwali, the Festival of Lights, was today celebrated across the State with traditional fervour and gaiety along with the rest of the country.

The festival , which signifies victory of good over evil, was celebrated by illuminating houses with earthen lamps and by lighting up houses, temples and offices with fancy bulbs. Like in other parts, Guwahati too wore a bridal look with designer lights on full display, be it private or public places.

Brightly coloured rangolis were also drawn on the day at the entrance of houses as part of the celebration.

According to Indian mythology, Hindu God Lord Rama returned to his kingdom after 14 years of exile and people lit earthen lamps to welcome him.

Goddess of wealth and prosperity Lakshmi is also worshipped on the day. Marked by a cacophony of fireworks , people were also seen exchanging sweets and gifts between each other on the occasion.
