Draft photo voters list of Darrang dist published
MANGALDAI, Nov 6 – Along with the rest of the State following the instruction of the Election Commission Of India, the draft of photo voters list covering Kalaigaon,Sipajhar, Mangaldai(SC) and Dalgaon under Darrang election department waspublished here recently. Sohrab Ali, Deputy Commissioner- cum-the District Election Officer, Darrang formally published the draft at a meeting at his conference hall and participated by representatives of a section of recognised political parties, officials related with this special summary roll revision and media persons.
Addressing the meeting, Sohrab Ali said that the district has achieved 88 per cent in the newly introduced photo voters list and they have set a target of enrolling 34,119 new voters during this one month period of receiving claims and objection of the voters that will going to continue upto November 19 next. The District Election Officer let the house know that to make the common voters sensitized about this summary roll revision process workplans for holding gram sabhas, publicity miking,worshops for college students, awareness rally have already been finalized.He also urged the political parties and the media to cooperate with this awareness campaign by the election department and informed about the helpline no.03713-222180 in the district election facilitate centre.The meeting also witnessed suggestions in this regard from Paran Kr Das, Chairman, Mangaldai Municipality Board, Arun Barua, district president RJD, Lakhsan Saharia, leader from Congress, journalists Mayukh Goswami, Bhargab Kr Das, Hemanta Barua, Diganta Kr Sarma etc.
Earlier Animesh Talukdar, Election Officer, Mangaldai explained the objectives of the meeting while Prashanta Baruah, Election Registration Officer spoke on the responsibilites of the grass root officials and elected representatives. According to the local election department out then total 6,59,397 no of voters 57,72,14 have been enrolled in the draft photo voters list. Although devotees and tourists visit this religious place throughout the year, their flow increases during winter from November to February. Tazmul Hoque, a senior citizen and social worker of Dhubri said that despite the existing potentialities to develop Dhubri district as a tourist spot, the State Government has not taken any steps in this regard. If the Tourism department does its share, Dhubri district can become an important tourist destination in the State.
