GOSSAIGAON, Nov 5 - The 39th Swahid Divas of Sadou Asam Karmachari Parishad (SAKP) was observed here under the aegis of the district Karmachari Parishad at the Samabai Samiti office on Friday.
The SAKP insigne was hoisted by the president of the district committee Maheswar Brahma. Smriti tarpan was initiated by Nirmal Paul.
It may be mentioned that on November 1, 1980, Dilip Chakrabarti, an employee of the Assam Secretariat, died during firing by CRPF jawans at Dispur when the employees were on a demonstration at the call of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) during the historic six-year-long Assam Agitation. Since then, the SAKP has been observing Swahid Divas every year on November 1.
In the meet, the secretary of Gossaigaon district committee Rajkumar Basumatary stressed on the need to remember those noble souls who died for the wellbeing of the nation as well as of the State.
He lamented that the long-drawn foreign national issue of the State had not yet been permanently settled to the liking of all.
“There should not be any division of opinion on the foreign national issue. The Citizenship Amendment Bill, if passed in Parliament, will jeopardise the identity of indigenous people. So at all cost, we all must stand united against the proposed Citizenship Amendment Bill,” he said.
Nirmal Paul, adviser and Abdul Mannan Sheikh, state organising secretary also spoke on the aims and objective of the SAKP.
Employees of the State government are not servants of the government, but they are servants of the State’s people, the meet opined. So the Parishad has been working for all-round development of the State and its economy, they added.
