Correspondent TEZPUR, Nov 5 - Different organisations like the Tezpur Sahitya Sabha, Trimurty Uddyan, Baan Theatre, Kolabhumi, Jaimoti Pothar, and Jyoti Bharati family here paid rich tributes to the legendary bard Dr Bhupen Hazarika today on his 8th death anniversary.

At the Tezpur Sahitya Sabha Bhavan, commemorating the great cultural icon, dignitaries like Acharya Kakoti, Puneswar Nath, Madhab Das, Nalini Baruah, Sailaja Kumar Padmapati, Ram Chandra Chutia, Geeta Upadhyay, Mrinali Chetia, Pulin Bhatta, Kalpana Kalita, Ruma Devi, Bhuban Gogoi among others paid rich tributes to him and spoke on how the society can keep Dr Bhupen Hazarika alive following his ideology. In connection with the event, different cultural programmes were also organised.
Meanwhile, at Jugal High School near here, a daylong programme was organised to commemorate the memory of the cultural icon. In memory of his unmatched contribution towards the society, a total of 350 lemon tree saplings were planted in the school field by the students and the local people connected with the school authority. Prior to it a commemoration meeting was also held in the school auditorium under the aegis of SMDC president, Pankaj Deva Rai. Conducted by the head of the school Biswajit Boro, the august occasion was graced by chairman, AMTRON, Ritubaran Sharma, senior journalist, Raj Kumar Mahanta, Meru Mithu Kataki, DPO, Samagra Sikshya, Sonitpur, Krishna Kanta Deka, social worker Rupjyoti Patangia, president, Tezpur Sahitya Sabha, Debabrata Sharam among others.
AT JAGIROAD: The 8th death anniversary of Sudhakantha Dr Bhupen Hazarika was observed by the Dr Bhupen Hazarika death anniversary celebration committee, Jagiroad at the premises of Barowari puja mandap here with various events like lighting the lamp, memorial meeting, cultural function, etc.
Organisations of the area including the women organisations namely Arpita, Lekhika Samaroh Samiti, Kalyani Sangha, students from various institutions participated in the programmes. A social worker of the area, Jitendra Kr Deka inaugurated the cultural function in which local artistes performed on Bhupenda’s songs. Earlier, in the memorial meeting organised on the occasion, the president of the reception samiti Dr Khagen Sarma, in his speech recalled Bhupenda’s contribution to the society.
AT NAGAON: Along with rest of the State in Nagaon too, hundreds of local socio-cultural organisations of the district with observed the 8th death anniversary of the State’s musical maestro Dr Bhupen Hazarika at various places in the district today.
The organisations paid tribute to him and also remembered his unparalleled contributions to the State’s music, art, culture and literature. The district unit of the Asam Sahitya Sabha at its district office, district unit of Sahitya Sanmilani in South Haiborgaon, Silpi Kanon, Asom at Nagaon Dawson Higher Secondary and vocational school, Sadou Asom Gramya Puthibhoral Sanstha, Gandhar, a cultural institution Dimoruguri, Ramanujan Junior College observed the day. Many other organisations conducted cleanliness drives in and around their offices or premises and paid floral tribute at his statue.
The organisations also discussed his unparalleled contributions to various fields of the State’s music, art, culture and literature with his evergreen songs and music.
