Karate body gets recognition|
GUWAHATI, Nov 5 - The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt of India finally granted recognition to the Karate Association of India (KAI) as a National Sports Federation (NSF) on October 28.
Earlier, the Ministry of Youth Affairs had recognized KAI in the year 2014-2015 which is a recognized member of the World Karate Federation, recognised by the International Olympic Committee. But this year three different AIKF group challenged against the recognition and applied for NSF recognition to Govt of India. However, finally the Govt of India has issued recognition letter to KAI as a NSF.
Meanwhile the game of karate has been included in the Tokyo Olympics and KAI will start preparation of the Indian players for Olympics from January 2017, stated the general secretary of the United Karate-Do Association, Assam (UKAA) Nagen Bongjang in a press conference today.
The working president Bhuban Lahkar, vice president Sharmila Deka, joint secretary Dipak Join and EC member Jayanta Barman were also present in the press meet.
