Sikkim Govt issued notice over appointment
A Correspondent
GANGTOK, Nov 5 - A division bench of Sikkim High Court has issued a notice to the State Government over a petition challenging the appointment of Lakchung Sherpa as the Legal, Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Secretary. Sherpa is the wife of Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister RB Subba.

The court was acting on a PIL filed by one Samser Gurung of Gangtok. The court has also issued a notice to the Chief Secretary seeking clarification on the appointment. The division bench is composed of Chief Justice Satish K Agnihotri and Justice Meenakshi Madan Rai.

Lakchung was also appointed as the State Inquiry Officer as the Secretary of Sikkim State Human Rights Commission. Previous to this, Lakchung has resigned as the Law Secretary which was accepted by the State Government. Lakchung was appointed as the Secretary of the Legal, Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs department as per a notification of Department of Personnel on October 6. The matter has been listed for hearing by the court on December 1.

The court has also said the appointment has been contended as a classic case of nepotism wherein a person having resigned was appointed as Secretary of Legal, Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs.
