State TT meet begins

 GUWAHATI, Nov 1 – The 61st Stag Sitaram Agarwala Inter District and Assam State Table Tennis Championship began at the Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium here today.

The tournament was inaugurated by Additional DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta. SK Rai, Deputy GM of OIL, Kanchan Hazarika, chairperson of the Nagen Hazarika TT Foundation, Rajen Gogoi, president of OIL Employees Union and Iswar Borthakur, member TTFI were also present on the occasion.

Encouraging the youngsters Mahanta said that they have to utilise the opportunities provided by the State table tennis body and improve their performance on a day by day basis. Hailing Birdie Boro’s achievement in the international level, Mahanta urged the other players of the State to emulate him and bring laurels to the State from national and international circuits. Rai, Borthakur and Gogoi also thanked ATTA officials for their effort in organising the championship in a befitting manner.

On the occasion, the Nagen Hazarika TT Foundation presented kits to State’s eight top ranking players in each category. The preliminary rounds in different categories began on 12 tables. The closing ceremony of the RG Baruah All Assam Major Ranking TT Tournament will be held tomorrow.
