Leopard killed

 JORHAT, May 30 -  A female leopard cub was killed by a mob of villagers at Haliagaon under Rowriah police outpost on the outskirts here.

Forest Range Officer (Jorhat) Dipak Dutta told The Assam Tribune today that the incident occurred late afternoon yesterday. Dutta said as per information received, the cub was attacked by a group of villagers with sharp weapons after the wild animal reportedly caused injury to a person who was a guest from Mariani in one of the villager’s house.

The Range Officer said that the forest staff after reaching the site found the cub dead and collected the carcass which was intact. He said after conducting the post-mortem in the district veterinary hospital today the carcass was cremated by the department as per government rules.

Dutta informed that an FIR has been lodged at the Rowriah police outpost regarding the incident and also an investigation by the Forest Department was on.
