Sports scribe passes away

 GUWAHATI, May 30 - Senior sports journalist and commentator Sanjib Kumar Sarma Thakur passed away in a local nursing home here this morning.

 Sarma Thakur was a senior sports journalist of Janasadharan and was a noted commentator of All India Radio and Doordarshan. He earned laurels as a commentator in various sporting events in AIR and DD in the State. His knowledge in the field of sports was laudable.

A keen sportsperson, Sarma Thakur was also a press adviser in the Prafulla Kumar Mahanta cabinet.

Sarma Thakur was hospitalised after suffering a head injury recently and later succumbed to the injury. He was 60.

His body was taken to the Janasadharan complex, Durga Mandir, Chandmari, RG Baruah Sports Complex before performing the last rites at the Navagraha crematorium.

He leaves behind his wife.

His untimely demise was condoled by the Assam Sports Journalists Association, of which he was a member, Directorate of Sports, Veteran Cricket Association of Assam, River Rine Cricket Coaching Centre, Assam Sepak Takraw Association, United Karate-do Association, Assam, Assam Sports Journalist Welfare Association, among others.
