ITANAGAR, May 30 - Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu today made it clear that the State Government would never develop hydropower projects in Siang basin “against the will of the people.”
While vowing that the State Government will never work against the will of the local people,” Khandu, who was addressing a public meeting at Geku in Upper Siang, said, “The government will take up hydropower projects only when people themselves feel the need for it.”
On allegations that the Government was secretly moving ahead with the hydropower projects, the CM said: “It is in the capacity of none to take up such big projects without being caught or noticed.”
Also allaying the rumours of Arunachal BJP having alliance with National People’s Party (NPP), the Chief Minister said that NPP is an alliance member of BJP-led NEDA (North East Democratic Alliance) but has no alliance with State BJP as it has no MLA in the State.
Khandu, meanwhile, said that the State BJP will have no pre-poll alliance with any party and is confident of winning all 60 seats in the 2019 Assembly polls.
Also present on the occasion were State BJP President Tapir Gao, Health Minister Alo Libang and local MLA Olom Panyang, among others.
Earlier, the Chief Minister inaugurated a tourist lodge and Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) at Geku, the foundation stone of which was laid by his late father and former CM Dorjee Khandu in 2008.
