Rohingya family held in Manipur

 IMPHAL, May 30 - Close on the heels of the arrest of eight Rohingya immigrants from here on May 21, Manipur police stationed at Mao Gate, 110 km from Imphal in Senapati district, held a Rohingya family, police said.

Police said that the arrest was made when the family tried to enter the State on May 28. They are being produced before the court of Chief Judicial Magirtrate Senapati. The arrested persons have been identified as Mohammad Abdullah (24), Bibi Ayesha (23) and an eight-month old baby of Rakhine, Myanmar. They possess a certificate from UNHCR.

According to police, the couple came to Manipur to meet one of their ‘sisters’ who has been staying in Manipur for more than seven years. They left their home in Myanmar after the Rohingya crisis erupted in September 2017, for Bangladesh and stayed sometime in Hyderabad and then moved to Kolkata.
