GUWAHATI, May 30 - Taking a stern view of the delay in the commissioning of water supply projects in Guwahati, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today asked the department concerned to expeditiously complete the projects and dedicate them to the service of the people speedily. Sonowal also directed the authority concerned to take action against the agencies responsible for the inordinate delay in commissioning the projects.
The directive came in a meeting convened to review the progress of water supply projects in the city at Janata Bhawan here today, stated an official press release here this evening.
Sonowal directed action against the agencies failing to complete the water supply projects within the stipulated time and asked the authority concerned to furnish the action taken report. He also took note of the reasons responsible for delay in the execution of the projects. He asked the officers authorised to oversee the implementation to also ensure the quality of construction activities concerning the projects.
It is to be noted that JNNURM, JICA and ADB are executing water supply and water treatment projects in the city. These projects have the potential of supplying 433 million litres of water to the city dwellers daily.
Guwahati Municipal Corporation Mayor Mrigen Sarania, media and legal advisers to the Chief Minister Hrishikesh Goswami and Santanu Bharali, Additional Chief Secretary MGVK Bhanu, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Sanjay Lohia, Principal Secretary (Finance) Dr Ravi Kota, CEO of GMDA Varnali Deka and other senior officers were present at the meeting.
