Shops gutted in N Lakhimpur

 NORTH LAKHIMPUR, May 30 A devastating fire created havoc in the heart of North Lakhimpur town destroying property worth several crores of rupees besides completely gutting dozens of shops and business establishments on Sunday.

The fire started from a shop that sells suitcases and bags in the busy Malpani Chariali of North Lakhimpur town at 7 am which quickly spread to the nearby shops.

The fire also destroyed the near by Upahar Market run by small scale traders.

Seven fire tenders coming from Bihpuria, NHPC-Gerukamukh, Gogamukh besides the North Lakhimpur fire service centre had a tough time to extinguish the fire.

The fire also completely destroyed the business establishments of small scale traders

Bhupen Borah, Bihpuria MLA who visited the site distributed Rs 25,000 to seven small scale traders who lost properties in the carnage.
