MLA gifts land to boxer Jamuna

 TEZPUR, May 29 - Assam’s international boxer Jamuna Boro, who recently won gold medal in the 2nd India Open International Boxing Tournament held in Guwahati was felicitated by Dhekiajuli MLA Ashok Singhal.

The felicitation function was held at Singhal’s Dhekiajuli residence. The pugilist was gifted one bigha of land for her outstanding performance. The MLA announced it through his official Twitter handle. Talking to The Assam Tribune Singhal said that it was a small gift for the local girl who made the country as well as the State proud. “You have made Assam proud. We are confident that you will continue to bring more medals for Assam and India.”

Jamuna Boro hails from a remote area in Sonitpur district – Batachipur-Belsiri along the Assam-Arunachal border area. She bagged the gold medal in the 54 kg category defeating Y Sandhyarani with a scoreline of 5-0.
