BAIHATA CHARIALI, May 28 - A five-day preliminary training for newly-elected panchayat representatives of Bihdia Jajikona, Kamalpur and Rangiya development blocks under Kamrup district is under way at the training hall of Extension Centre of State Institute of Panchayat and Rural Development (SIPRD), Saraighat, Bezera from May 27.
The training was formally inaugurated by Ramen Barua , Principal and incharge of the centre. In the training, the Principal spoke on the basic concept of Panchayati Raj and about the local autonomous government.
Kulajit Rajbongshi and Pallabi Goswami, lecturers of the institute, spoke on the development of panchayat system in India as well as in Assam and on the role and power of the permanent committees of gaon panchayat, its formation and the relation of panchayat with the community.
Moreover, a number of other topics relating to the role of panchayat and various schemes of panchayat like PMAY, MGNREGA, etc., were discussed by the resource persons.
The Principal of the institute said that the training will conclude on May 31 and the participating panchayat representatives will be awarded certificates from the institute at the valedictory function to be held on the concluding day of the training.
