149 hydropower projects coming up in State

 GUWAHATI, May 28 – Several small hydroelectric power projects are under execution in the State, while several others are in the pipeline. These projects are expected to provide relief to this power-starved State in a considerable way. The projects are being implemented by the Assam Power Project Development Company Ltd (APPDCL), a joint venture of the Assam Government and the multi-national engineering and construction firm IL&FS.

According to APPDCL sources, the projects under implementation include the 3- MW Pahumara Project, the 4.7- MW Bordikorai Project, the 9MW- Disang Project, and the 3-MW each Stage-I & II Kalanga Project. The 1.6 -MW Dronpara is in bidding stage, sources said.

Sources said that the as per the small hydropower policy of the Assam Government, around 149 small hydroelectric projects have been planned to be set up throughout the State. These include the above named ones too.

The State Government floated the APPDCL teaming up with IL&FS. IL&FS is one of the leading multi-national infrastructure development construction and project management companies.

Execution of the 3-MW Pahumara Project, being implemented at Lau Gaon in Baksa district, is expected to be complete by mid-2013. Construction of the 4.7- MW Bordikorai Project, which is under implementation at Itakhola is expected to be complete by the same time.
