SILCHAR, May 25 - The results of the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council announced today gave people of Barak Valley a huge reason to cheer as four students made it to the merit list.

Even as Ashim Sarkar of Vivekananda Junior College stood first in the Commerce stream with 474 narks, his college mate Brinda Roy secured 9th rank with 455 marks.

On the other hand, Daisy Pathak from Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School bagged the second position in the Science stream with 477 marks and Harsh Golchha in Commerce stream from Karimganj Junior College secured 7th rank with 458 marks.

“I studied 13-14 hours daily and knew the results would be good. I never believed that a student like me coming from a middle class family would secure first position. Credit goes to my college teachers and my parents. I wish to be a teacher and contribute to the noble task of nation-building,” Ashim told The Assam Tribune. His parents Amit Sarkar and Purnima Sakar also expressed great joy over their son’s achievement.

Daughter of Anupam Pathak and Kabita Pathak, Daisy secured 98.55 per cent in the AIEEE examination. However, she said that even as she is appearing in the Engineering tests, she aims to become a doctor.

Meanwhile, Brinda Roy aspires to become a banker. Sharing her joy, Brinda said, “I did not expect this level of success, I am speechless now. I wish to pursue banking as my career.”
