Rally against petrol price hike held

 GUWAHATI, May 25 – At the call of Joint Council of Trade Unions, Assam, several hundred workers and employees of insurance, bank, power sector, BSNL, Central and State government establishments, as well as other public and private sector undertakings today held a rally and demonstration against the steep increase in the petrol prices by oil marketing companies with the approval of the Union government.

Workers and employees assembled before the Judge’s Field here and took out a rally to the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup Metropolitan District. A memorandum, written to the Prime Minister of India was handed over to the DC demanding immediate roll back of increased prices of petrol.

Expressing its concern over the possibility of altercations between the vehicle drivers and the passengers due to the increased petrol prices, the All India Road Transport Workers Federation, Assam State Committee have asked the government to annul the price hike.
